Sculptural Botanical Splendor
Wearable Sculpture, Fashion Design
Completed in association with a group of 12 other designers, this project is a collaboration between Westphal College and Longwood Gardens, culminating in the creation of two gowns constructed entirely out of preserved botanicals. The gowns were displayed in the Music Room during 2022’s A Longwood Christmas event. Creating the gown designated as “the green dress” involved combining fine art and sculptural skills, a keen eye to craft, and inspiration drawn from the holiday spirit.
Ensemble Details
As well as working collaboratively to create the gown, an independent project included designing and creating the shoes for the garment. Mimicking the color scheme and floral elements utilized in the dress, the shoes pair gold wiring with ornamental motifs, topped off with a copper heel and crafted completely by hand.
