New York City Ballet

Exhibit Poster Design

Following the unique history of one of the foremost dance companies in the world, this project explores the formation of the New York City Ballet Company through a timeline-based exhibit poster. The poster follows a narrative structure, chronologically presenting dates and locations that were crucial to the company’s founding. The color palette and photography used create a sense of fluidity and motion, and reflect the athletic and contemporary style for which the company is world-renowned.

Details

“Dance design is not simply one element; it is that without which ballet cannot exist. As aria is to opera, words to poetry, color to painting, so sequence in steps - their syntax, idiom, vocabulary - are the stuff of stage dancing.”

-Lincoln Kirstein, New York City Ballet Co-founder
